I suppose another way of putting "I can't make you walk, but YOU can make you walk" is "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink". In a similar vein, one of my favourite sayings is, I think, a Buddhist idea: "If you ever find yourself floundering in deep water, pray to God and swim for the shore" - ie. pray by all means, but you'd be stupid not to swim for it as well!

I also wonder if the UCB people took the lyrics out of context - ie. interpreted it as Jesus saying to the lame man "Actually, I CAN'T make you walk". Or is that the point, and I'm failing to see a whole layer of profound lyrical content here?

I have to say Rob that although I knew who you were through ATF - I knew nothing of you as a solo artist - but after coming to see you at that acoustic set in Norwich a few months ago I was deeply impressed - an ease and honesty about what you were saying and singing and some lyrical content that was truly amazing.
I have since that day found a number of your CD's and listen to them back to back regularly.
I was interested to see you mention opening for Randy Stonehill. The first "christian" album I ever brought was "Welcome To Paradise" and after the first song "King Of Hearts" my eyes and ears were opened to realise there was so much more to christian music than hymns.
And actually although I know a lot of Keith Green material, you remind me of that early Randy album - lyrically it was deep and you had to think about what he was saying it wasn't just another christian guy singing "Jesus I love you" (not that there is anything wrong in singing that) but it was from personal experience as I think so much (if not everything) you do is the same.
I love "Hope" its an amazing song and "Christians Brother" and I would also pick out "Streets Of This Town" as well.
So here is to the next ten years

Hey Rob - having spent a very pleasant afternoon listening to back to back tracks of none other then, YOU, this "vote" came just at the right time.
The missing track for me is your version of "Carry Me Home" which as I posted on my Facebook Page yesterday I was very impressed with - so if I can have an 11th vote that would be it
